Manicures and Pedicures in Jerusalem, secrets revealed

Don’t be upset, boys. I know this blog can get a little girly at times due to the fact that we are, in fact, girls. But I’ll tell you this, mention the juicy details in this post to a lady friend, and you will be guaranteed a 10.5 second hug, perhaps even a high five. So, it’s up to you to continue reading.

I decided it was time to grow up and stop taking out boredom or nervousness on my poor fingers. So, I set out on treating myself to a manicure and did what any good Jerusalem Anglo would do, check Janglo before venturing out of my home. I called a few places but found the prices to be at least 60 shekels. Alas, I found an ad posted from Ester, who would come to my house and give me a manicure for 50 shekels. I thought this service was reserved for the wealthy with butlers, a summer home in the Hamptons, and a 3 car garage.

So, in this strange land of Israel, you can enjoy in-home manicures or a stick of deodorant for roughly the same price. So make your choice wisely. You could be stinky or have some nice lookin’ nails. I went for the nails. Ester’s number is 0544 99 5067.

In other extremity news, my graphic design teacher showed us how to shorten toes in Photoshop but he kept referring to them as fingers. Not the Hebrew word for fingers, the English word itself. Should I have said something? Probably. Did I? No. This way, every time I mess up in Hebrew, I can think back to all the Israelis I’ve met who think they jump in puddles, ride their bike, and step in dog poop with their “fingers” and have a good giggle.

I struggled with this concept also….Mike broke his toe and Yossi kept telling him what to do for his broken “finger”….finally the token went all the way in, and we all realized that Hebrew only has one word to cover both toes and fingers….

I am convinced that some entrepreneur could really make a killing by opening a chain of nail salons in Israel. Except for the salons (catering primarily to hair) in the fancy hotels, there are virtually no nail salons. Anyone wanna invest in a chain called USANails? I think it would be a hit!!!!

Aliyah06 – I can only imagine the mishaps that can happen from this confusion!

Marsha – thanks for visiting. I totally agree with you and have always thought the same thing about the potential success of an american style salon that would offer manicures at NYC prices ($8-$10 max). I don’t know that I have the money or resources to invest in the chain, but if the prices are good, I’ll be there.

Hello, I am a male visiting Israel from Chicago, Illinois. I’m looking for a salon to receive a pedicure. I’m not sure whether it is common for males out here to receive pedicures or not, however back in Chicago it is. Can any one recommend a male friendly salon to me? Thank you.

Hi Jerry, try calling Esther 0544 99 5067 I don’t know if she will do pedicures for men, but ask her. And, if not, maybe she can recommend someone else for you.

    Hi Rebecca,

Great tip – but I’m hesitant. These in-home services kinda seem shady to me. In Philly, where I’m from, the salon girls spend about an hour doing an manicure and an hour doing a pedicure – it’s a real star treatment with creams, massage, etc.
How was your experience with a home visit?

      Hi Racheli,

I didn’t find Esther creepy at all. In fact, she’s super nice and normal. But i def. had those feelings going into it. it’s not 5 star treatment, but it gets the job done convenient and inexpensively

    Hi!
I’ve recently moved back to Jerusalem and am looking for someone who does artificial nails. Can anyone recommend somebody. I tried one on a visit a couple of years ago and ended up with an infection. On the other hand my nails are so long I can barely type:(((
    Thanks

    Hi Everyone!

I am really excited to announce, I have just opened up a little spa and salon in my home just off Emek. I qualified in Israel and I have nine years experience in the field. I have worked for various spas both in Israel and abroad. Over the years I have noticed that treatment prices at spas these days are extremely pricey and sadly most people are unable to enjoy the luxury of pampering themselves. Working from home permits me the ability to provide the same professional treatment and expert advice at a reasonable price that most can afford.

Here is my price list. For more information or to schedule a treatment please contact me at 054-7553-995 or email me at Jerusalemspa@gmail.com

    Take care,
    Shana

Manicure – 45 sheks – 45 mins to an hour
    Pedicure – 85 sheks – 1 hour
Massage – Includes Swedish, Deep Tissue or Aroma Therapy – Women only – 1 hour 180 sheks
    Massage 30 mins – 100 sheks
    Facial – 200 sheks – 1 to 1.5 hours

Includes Tea, coffee and mild refreshments.
Package deals and discounts available for each additional treatment.

    Hi Everyone
I own a nail salon in the shopping center in Har Nof. I am open over 2 yrs and seem to have filled a “void”. You can book an appointment or “walk-in”. My salon is a nice hang out for women only and I only hire the best of the best!!!
We do all nail care – manicure, pedicure, medical pedicure, Biposculpture gels, IBD gels, acrylics…………We also do full body waxings with top of the line waxes….We do facials, massage, make-up, ear piercing………..
We are “American-style” but my manicures did recently go up to 60 shekels because USA prices only seem reasonable maybe in home-based businesses. I personally (coming from usa) did not enjoy going to private homes and being a busy mother of young children, was not able to know a week in advance when I’d have time to get my eyebrows done!
We have a lot of customers from outside of har nof…..free parking…….feel free to call with any questions or to book an appointment – erev shavuos is almost full!!!

I actually came to this page because I was googling a good place to get my hair done in Jerusalem, but must add my comment to the one directly above me – Chanie from Perfection.

I will let no one else TOUCH my eyebrows, and since I use her gels, for the first time in my life, I have nice nails… and she is the cleanest place I have ever seen. That is definitely hard to come by 🙂

Also.. it just seems that my leg waxings are further apart, like her wax keeps the hair from growing back as quickly.

    Highly Recommended.

If anyone knows of a good hairdresser, let me know! Thanks
